Dear Professional Colleagues,
I, as the 69th elected Chairman of the 25th EIRC for the year 2025 - 26, am humbled to address you through this Newsletter for the first time. I am grateful to the team of Eastern India Regional Council and all of you for entrusting me with this responsibility. As we embark on this new journey together, I put before you the Theme as EYE. The significance of EYE is Empowerment, Youth Ethics. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has long been committed to shaping the future of the accounting profession by fostering a culture of Empowerment, Youth, and Ethics (EYE). This initiative is a guiding philosophy aimed at strengthening the foundation of young professionals and students, ensuring they not only excel in their careers but also uphold the highest ethical standards. This initiative is a beacon for the members and students of ICAI, shaping them into confident, skilled, and ethical professionals. By integrating these principles into education and practice, ICAI continues to nurture leaders who will drive financial excellence and uphold the dignity of the profession globally.

(Dr.) Debashis Mitra, Past President, ICAI for their remarkable contribution towards elevating the position of ICAI globally, and congratulate them on their successful completion of tenure as the Presidents of ICAI for the term 2024 – 25 and 2022 – 23 respectively.

In my view, the profession is poised to take a significant leap forward during the year 2025-26, with the election of CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, a dynamic leader with lots of experience and innovative ideas, as the new President of ICAI. I on behalf of EIRC offer my best wishes to him, assuring our full commitment to his vision and hoping that his tenure will propel ICAI to achieve great heights.

I express my sincere gratitude to CA. Sanjib Sanghi, the Immediate Past Chairman of EIRC, CA Debayan Patra, Past Chairman of EIRC and CA Ravi Kumar Patwa, Past Chairman of EIRC for their exceptional leadership. As working under them, I had the opportunity to learn and grow under their guidance. I further congratulate CA Ravi Kumar Patwa and CA Sanjib Sanghi on being elected as the Central Council Members in 26th Council of ICAI for the term 2025 to 2029.
New Office bearers of EIRC-ICAI
I congratulate my Regional Council colleagues CA Mayur Agrawal, CA Hari Ram Agarwal, CA Aditya Kumar Maheshwari on their being elected as the Hony. Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively of the EIRC for the year 2025-26. I also convey my thanks to CA Bisworanjan Sutar on his induction to the EIRC for the tenure 2025 to 2029. CA. Mayur Agrawal has been nominated as the Chairman of the Eastern India Chartered Accountants Students’ Association (EICASA) of the EIRC of ICAI. I am sure that with the active support and guidance of this team, we will elevate the EIRC & EICASA to new heights.
Our Objective for the year 2025 - 26
Empower: Enabling Future Leaders Empowerment is at the core of professional growth. ICAI, through its robust educational programs, skill development initiatives, and mentorship opportunities, ensures that both members and students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and expertise. To realise this objective we will have various platforms, including technical workshops, digital learning resources, and leadership training, to empower individuals to take charge of their careers and contribute meaningfully to the profession and society.
Youth: Harnessing Potential for a Progressive Future
The youth are the driving force of change and innovation. ICAI actively engages with students and young members through various youth-focused initiatives such as campus placements, student conferences, and networking opportunities. Initiatives to be taken from our side will include Students’ programmes, seminars and conferences for young members to encourage collaboration, inspire new ideas, and foster a sense of responsibility among the younger generation of Chartered Accountants and students. By embracing technology and promoting financial literacy it will ensure that young professionals are well-prepared for the evolving business landscape.
Ethics: The Pillar of Professional Integrity
Ethics form the foundation of the Chartered Accountancy profession. Upholding integrity, transparency, and professionalism is non-negotiable. ICAI continuously reinforces ethical conduct through its Code of Ethics, regular training, and awareness programs. Members and students are guided to adhere to the highest standards of accountability, ensuring trust and credibility in financial reporting and decision-making. Ethics is not just a regulatory requirement but a value system that defines a true professional.

Felicitation of Torch Bearer of ICAI for the year 2025 – 26
On March 7th, 2025, EIRC hosted a felicitation ceremony at RaajKutir, Swabhumi, Kolkata to honour the Torch Bearer of ICAI for the year 2025-26. Chief Guest CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Hon’ble President of ICAI, addressed the gathering on ICAI's initiatives in the coming year.
International Women’s Day
Celebration of International Women’s Day was observed on 7th March 2025 under the aegis of Women & Young Members Empowerment Committee of ICAI. The Chairperson of the Committee CA Priti Paras Savla was present alongwith the Vice Chairperson of the Committee CA Ravi Kumar Patwa, Central Council Member from Eastern Region. Dr. Sujata Datta, Sr. Consultant, Gynaecology and Dr. Tapti Sen, Sr. Consultant, Oncology spoke on breast and cervical cancer and its detection and prevention. 35 senior most women members of the profession were felicitated by CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, President, ICAI.
Phulo Ki Holi – Holi Utsav & Dol Jatra 2025
Recognizing the significance of building camaraderie and fostering unity among our members, the EIRC, in collaboration with all its Study Circles, organized a collective Phulo Ki Holi on 15th March, 2025, which witnessed a turnout of over 500 participants and was deemed a resounding success. While prioritising professional development is crucial, creating opportunities for bonding and socializing is equally valuable.

A Moment of Grief
With utmost grief and sorrow, we inform you the sad demise of our beloved Past Chairman, CA. Prasun Kumar Bhattacharyya on 13th March 2025 at Kolkata. He was the Chairman of Eastern India Regional Council for the year 2012 – 13. He served the Regional Council from 2007 to 2010 and from 2010 to 2013. A condolence meeting was held on 18th March 2025 at EIRC Auditorium as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Branch Orientation Programme
From 21st to 23rd March 2025, EIRC and its branches participated in the Orientation Programme for Members of Regional Councils, Managing Committee Members of Branches, Study Circles and Chapters. It was held in New Delhi in Hotel Andaz.
All Women Managing Committee Members Branch of EIRC
Raniganj Branch of EIRC is now having all women Chartered Accountants as the Managing Committee Members. It is first in EIRC and second Branch of ICAI having all women chartered accountants as its Managing Committee Members. I congratulate them for coming forward to lead the Raniganj Branch.

I am deeply committed to serving the needs of our esteemed members and students. With the support of our dedicated team at EIRC and the contributions of our members, I am confident that we can achieve great success. I invite all members to actively participate in the various programmes and initiatives that we have planned in the coming days. Let us work together to build a stronger and more prosperous community of Chartered Accountants.
